the missions book club ~ chapter 1

Hi All,
We are ready to go!

The Mission Book Club will begin on Thursday, February 2, at 6:30 p.m.

We will be reading and discussing Jeannette Windle's book, Veiled Freedom. If you would like me to order a book for you , please let me know right away!
The place we will meet will be determined by the number of participants so I will get back to you on that!

I am excited about this "trip" into the mission world!

The Conference is Coming! The Conference is Coming!

Hello Grace Church!!!

Well, who can believe it, but 2012 is upon us!!! God has seen fit to tarry yet another year, and we will attempt to be wise and use each day of this one for His glory, as long as there is time. In a mere 7 weeks we will be getting ready to embark upon ii2Ceven>things (eyes to see even greater things), Grace Church's missions conference. Or should I say missions adventure?

If you have not picked up some refrigerator magnets with our conference logo to help you save the dates, please do that! They are in the foyer on tables outside the sanctuary. Or, ask an usher! While seeking out your new magnets, look for the new Grace Church Missionary Profiles booklet that should be in the same vicinity! This is a listing of all Grace's supported long-term missionaries, along with a good deal of helpful information in it to help you know and pray for those furthering the Kingdom of God on our behalf around the globe. Pick up your copy today!!! And start asking God what He wants to say to YOU during our upcoming conference!!! More soon!

February 26-28 & March 2-4, 2012

Grace Church is excited to announce that we are in the throes of planning an extremely exciting 6-day Missions Conference in early 2012! It will take place from Sunday to Sunday, taking the Wednesday & Thursday in the middle off. We are thrilled that TEN of our missionary families will be represented at the conference! We will be hearing from two wonderful Keynote Speakers, Dr. Robert Alderman from VA, and Dr. Daniel Kamaraj, a national pastor Grace has the privilege of supporting in North India.

CONFERENCE EVENTS!

Here's a run-down of some of the exciting events we're cooking up for the conference!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER EVENTS

Dr. Robert Alderman will be opening God's Word for us Sunday morning and evening (2.26) and Monday evening (2.27) regarding God's plan for His Church and the nations in a series called Inside a Missionary Think Tank. These sessions will also include amazing times of worship and testimonies from our visiting missionaries.

Dr. Daniel Kamaraj will bring the message on Friday evening (3.2) and Sunday morning (3.4) on Advancing the Gospel in a Hostile Land. You may want to invite others to join us to hear Daniel's exciting preaching and stories from India.

ENCOURAGEMENT 4 MISSIONARIES from the WORD

Join us for a time of encouragement and challenge from our pastors to our visiting missionaries on Monday (2.27), Tuesday (2.28), and Friday (3.2) mornings in the sanctuary at 9:30 a.m.

EVEN GREATER THINGS PANEL DISCUSSION

Come, learn, and grow at what promises to be a rich, lively conversation on many topics between our visiting missionaries, moderated by Mike Hardy on Tuesday (2.28) at 6:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room.

LUNCH 4 LADIES POTLUCK

At noon on Friday (3.2) ladies will have the opportunity to come togehter for a potluck lunch. We will have the great privilege of hearing one of our long-term Grace missions staff, Pat Wright, share with us. Pat has served with her husband, Bob, with TEAM in Venezuela and in recent years at TEAM headquarters in Wheaton. In addition, Denise Courtright will share from her experiences in Romania over the past couple years.

FAMILY PRAYER WALK

Beginning Friday evening, the lower level of Grace Church will be transformed into a place of prayer, complete with multiple stations that will take you and your family around the world. You will learn about many corners of the world through hands-on activities, reading and watching videos. The walk concludes with an opportunity to respond in prayer. The Prayer Walk will open before the Friday evening session at 5:00 p.m. and stay open for the remainder of the weekend.

GREATER THINGS SYMPOSIUM

On Saturday morning (3.3), our visiting missionaries will be presenting 40-minute workshops on exciting topics during 4 consecutive sessions between 9:00 a.m. and noon. You will have the chance to choose among topics such as:

+If God Wills: Reaching Muslims in Europe

+Making Disciples in a Facebook World

+The Remaining Task in India

+The Clarion Call: Come Over Here and Help Us!

DESSERT @ HOME NIGHT

It's Saturday night!!! (3.3) Get engaged in missions on a deeper level by getting to know one of our attending missionaries in the homes of Grace families. Have some yummy dessert while you're at it! INTERNATIONAL COFFEE HOUSE

Are you young? Are you thinking about what to do with your life? Do you want to get in the game of serving with your whole heart/soul/mind/strength? On Saturday night (3.3), Jim Rinella [Navigators, CO] and John & Linda Berger [International Students, Inc, Blm/Normal] will challenge you to have eyes to see the world around you as God does. This event is geared to high school thru 20-somethings, but all are welcome. Coffee drinks, non-coffee drinks, food, and live music are all part of the fun; 7:00 p.m. in the Crossings.

THE 2012 WORLD'S FARE

Following Sunday's final combined service (3.4) (9:00-11:00 a.m.), where we will re-commission our missionaries and ourselves, we will celebrate God's goodness and His work in us throughout the week. Lunch with a few foods from the countries where our missionaries are working (along with some US fare like gondolas) will be provided. Suggested donation: $3/person.

Get Some Perspective!

Are you craving a new outlook on life? Need a shake-up in your heart and brain? Get some perspective by taking the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course, which is starting soon! This is a life-changing class for people who want to learn more about missions from the Biblical, Historical, Cultural and Strategic perspectives. Many in our Grace family have been through this course and have been changed by it! You'll enjoy top-notch speakers from around the country and globe!

This year's course will be held on Thursday nights at Eastview Christian Church in Normal from 6-9pm, from Jan. 11 to May 3. Eyes to See: Our Purpose

a - To better educate ourselves about the lostness of our world.
b - To teach our Grace family how to personalize missions and become more passionately engaged in the process.
c - To challenge individuals with MANY types of specific opportunities to get practically involved in obeying the Great Commission.
d - To care for our attending missionaries with love and kindness as we seek to learn from them, build stronger relationships with them, and partner with them more effectively for the cause of Christ.
